Gary was born on November 18, 1952 in Kalamazoo. Gary graduated from Olivet College with a B.A. in Social Studies in 1976, while serving in the Air National Guard in the rank of Sergeant until he was honorably discharged in 1978. He currently is the owner of Dockmaster where he has been since 1978.

While Gary was growing his business, he met and fell in love with Karen, tying the knot on September 28, 1985. Karen brought two children into their marriage (Nathan and Lisa).

Tragically, Nate was killed by a drunk driver just 3 months before his high school graduation in 1987. Of course, this was very difficult on the marriage, but God’s sovereign hand brought them through as Gary was not a follower of Christ at the time. In June of 1996, Gary realized he could not operate in his own strength any longer. What the adversary meant for evil, God had redeemed for good in their lives and marriage. He and Karen began attending Yorkville Community Church where they were married, but then began attending gracespring Bible Church (Richland Bible at the time) in 1998, where both Gary and Karen have served faithfully through the years in numerous capacities.

Gary has served as an Elder in the past and is currently serving in Men’s Ministry discipleship.

Gary states: “I would not be the person I am without God’s presence in my life.” His wife Karen is his best friend and a vital part of his decision to serve in the capacity as Elder in this new season at gracespring Bible Church.
